WHAT I'M INVESTIGATING

EXAMINING THE QUALITY OF CALL-LIGHT COMMUNICATION BETWEEN NURSES AND PATIENTS

HENRY MAYO HOSPITAL

Volunteering at Henry Mayo provided me with crucial experience in a hospital environment.

Assigned to the Nursing Unit, I regularly communicate patient needs to nurses, deliver supplies throughout the hospital, answer phone calls regarding patient reports, and make rounds to ensure patients receive the care that they need.

As a volunteer, I took note of the poorly designed call-light communication system between patients and nurses. I sought to design a new platform that would ease the stress of nurses and increase the comfort of patients.

ANALYZING SANTA CLARITA'S READINESS FOR THE 4TH INDUS. REVOLUTION

GLOBAL PREP ACADEMY

After reading  Brad Smith's Tools and Weapons, I looked inward on my community after learning that, with the Fourth Industrial Revolution on the horizon, businesses and employers must embrace technology  and practices conducive for the future of the retail industry and the workforce.  I conducted a study on Santa Clarita's workforce and retail industry, discovering that (based on data from the Census Bureau) 38% of jobs in Santa Clarita contain predictable physical and cognitive tasks, indicating that they are at risk of displacement. During my research, I also stumbled upon the six emerging business models of 2030 (according to the World Economic Forum). I analyzed a local stripmall, Valencia Marketplace, and took note of the lack of sustainability of its businesses and its lack of a conducive business model according to the emerging models. Through direct observation, I observed that Valencia Marketplace is indicative of an overall trend of unsustainable strip malls in Santa Clarita. Overall, through my research, I took note of Santa Clarita's lack of readiness for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
