CARTER COTE IS..

Living at the intersection of polar opposite identities and cultures feels like stumbling around in a forest in the dark. I am biracial and unique through my ethnic backgrounds. As I stumble through that dark, racially ambiguous forest, I have felt like an imposter in a certain sense.  I am a descendent of Québécois. I grew up in the forests of New Hampshire, enjoying the signature dishes of pâté chinois, tourtières (meat pies), and French onion soup. Yet, my brown skin and facial features signify that I am Filipino. I remain proud of my French Canadian background, but now I seek to develop a stronger connection with the traditions of my Filipino ancestors and family members.

A Filipino-FrenCH CANADIAN!

Only 4% of Boy Scouts become an Eagle Scout. I have had the privilege and honor of attaining the rank, and the obstacles that I faced on my journey towards Eagle have helped shape who I am today. My eleven years in scouting has allowed me to learn several skills, to enjoy the outdoors, to adventure through the wilderness, and most importantly to shape my character. Being a Scout is a privilege and an honor, and it is a merit that I continue to represent by reflecting a Scout’s values in my everyday life.

CARTER COTE IS..

At Saint Kateri Catholic Church, I have been fortunate enough to serve as an altar server for 6 years and as a youth Confirmation peer leader for the last two years. where I mentor underclassmen and initiate conversation about our faith. I am also an active member of Teens on a Mission, a student organization that seeks to assist the less fortunate while remaining connected to our faith. In addition to an annual self-fundraised mission trip, we meet throughout the year to discuss the causes of poverty and homelessness in our community, and to explore solutions.

ACTIVE IN HIS FAITH!

5:30 AM individual training sessions. Go to school, then come home and practice some more. This was a typical day for me as a dedicated basketball player. Placing high standards upon myself, I became obsessed with the competitive nature of the sport and the process of continuous improvement. The skills of mental discipline, hard work, and determination that I developed in my playing career are skills that I continue to employ throughout my life. Whether it is to attain academic success or to reach personal milestones, the mental tools that I have learned in basketball have allowed me to overcome adversity and to accomplish my goals.
